When I first started ED 205 I thought that we would just be doing basic computer usage. I am very happy that it was not just another computer class. I loved the format of how we have tied everything back to the reason why we are taking this class in the first place EDUCATION. I have found some things in this class that I don’t think I would teach without using. I think that MACUL and RUBISTAR would benefit me the most in my classroom. I am plan to eventually sign up with MACUL for an account of my own. Another thing I would like is to subscribe to a couple journals. This way I can always stay updated. You can never stop learning new things when your a teacher or you’ll never suceed. I plan to stay on top with technology in my classroom, I have found it to come very handy in my teachings.
Constructivism
When I was reading about constructivism I started thinking about standardized testing. I have a very difficult time being tested on standard things a student my age should know. I prefer testing the student to see what they are capable of learning. The reason why I agree with constructivism learning is because it is based on the students. The students take part, rather than acting as just lab rats. I feel this process allows the teacher to learn more about his/her students and also allows the teacher to reach the level needed for each student. After reading the articles listed on our ED 205 website, I don’t understand why every teacher wouldn’t choose this route.
Blog # 2 My Software List
It is very hard for me to list what I think is the most important thing for a student to learn when it comes to computer learning. I went to a school where you didn’t take classes that focused any attention on computer use or internet use. We were just expected to learn these things on our own.
I would have to put them is the following order:
Word (You will use this the most in your life.)
Power Point (Standard for any presentation.)
Instructional Games
Drill & Practice Programs
Spreadsheets (Excel)
I don’t think that you should have to know Excel or Power Point until High School level. As for the other programs listed I believe these are the most important software’s. I am willing to admit this might be because I am lacking Computer Education myself
Using Disasters in Our Curriculum.
I think that using these disasters is beneficial to the curriculum and should be necessary to our everyday lesson plans. We can use these real live examples in many different subjects. In my 307 English class we did a lesson unit on the Tsunami. We covered all the basics such as reading, writing, science, social studies and math. I personally think it would be ignorant to not discuss these instances in our classrooms. The students can learn so much from what we discuss in class. We also have to keep in mind that some students might not have the ability to talk to others about how they feel and what is really going on. When you become a teacher you take a pledge to educate students on more than what is just in the textbooks the school supplies. Once again I think we should use these tragic events to invoke the minds of our students and further the educational value for our classrooms.
